GBCA has announced the winners of the 19th Annual Construction Excellence Awards, the premier construction awards program recognizing quality workmanship by GBCA members, as well as excellence in diversity and inclusion, safety, and technological advancement. Contractors, architects, and owners of 16 winning projects and initiatives were honored at an awards ceremony held at the recently opened event space in SugarHouse Casino on November 3, 2016.
This year, to more broadly recognize the unique characteristics of and the challenges presented by construction specialties and building projects, GBCA expanded the awards program to highlight excellence in specific areas of construction, such as concrete construction and demolition, as well as certain building types, such as hospitality and healthcare. GBCA also honored an Affiliate of the Year, an outstanding affiliate member of GBCA, and the Best of the Best, the most highly recognized project of the program — as voted by GBCA members.
“The winning projects represent the finest in construction within the Greater Philadelphia region,” said Benjamin J. Connors, Esq., president, GBCA. “We are proud to honor our members’ admirable innovation, collaboration, and craftsmanship, as well as our members who are advancing the industry through exciting new initiatives.”
The winners of the 19th annual Construction Excellence Awards were determined by a panel of esteemed judges: Christine M. Fiori, PhD, PE, program director and clinical professor, Construction Management Program, Drexel University College of Engineering; Joshua Levy, AIA, LEED AP, director of building technology, Ballinger; and Denise Thompson, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, associate, Francis Cauffman. They reviewed each nomination for workmanship and project management details, originality and innovative elements, and special techniques or materials.
