The latest data from Data Digest highlights continued pricing pressures across the construction industry. For the third consecutive month, input costs rose in March, with nonresidential construction inputs increasing by 0.4%.
Materials heavily impacted by tariffs saw notable spikes. According to the Producer Price Index (PPI), prices rose sharply for several key commodities:
- Steel mill products: up 7.1%
- Aluminum mill shapes: up 5.1%
- Lumber and plywood: up 2.7%
These increases reflect the continued volatility in global markets and the uncertain status of tariffs affecting construction materials. The impact on pricing varies by project type, but contractors should remain alert to the potential for further fluctuations.
GBCA will continue to monitor these trends and keep members informed as new data becomes available.
