On Thursday, June 28, City of Philadelphia Mayor Michael Kenney signed into law the 2018 International Building Code (IBC).
This action required lobbying from GBCA at the state level. Philadelphia previously operated under the 2009 version of the IBC due to an outdated approval formula mandated by the Uniform Construction Code. GBCA, along with the City of Philadelphia, lobbied to restructure statewide regulations to allow Philadelphia to adopt the 2018 IBC.

On Thursday June 21st, City Council overwhelmingly voted to pass a Housing Trust Fund Bill which would create a new sub fund to receive the revenue created by the proposed 1% Construction Impact Tax. The 1% Construction Impact Tax, however, only passed by a very slim margin in a vote of 9-8. Councilmembers Cindy Bass, Jamie Blackwell, Allan Domb, Derek Green, Bobby Henon, Brian O’Neill, David Oh, and Al Taubenberger were all ‘No’ votes on the bill.
