Demolition has begun on the 33-year-old, seven-story office building in Cherry Hill. Geppert Bros., Inc. is performing the demolition.
The 115,000 square foot structure at 2235 W. Marlton Pike has stood vacant ever since Subaru moved its US headquarters into a new Camden facility in April 2018. That project included a headquarters building and training center for Subaru's 500 local employees.
On June 5, 2018, a special dedication ceremony was held for the June 5 Memorial Park at 22nd and Market Streets in Philadelphia. The memorial commemorates the lives lost after a building tragically collapsed during its demolition in 2013.
This memorial serves as a reminder that demolition, and construction in general, is dangerous work. In addition to issues such as building collapse, demolition can expose workers and the public to other hazards, including airborne hazards such as silica, lead, and asbestos.
