On November 1, 2017, The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia held Business Advocacy Basics: How to Leverage Local Government Relations. This panel discussed why businesses should understand legislation, and how to connect with local representatives. GBCA Director of Industry Relations, Lance Claiborne, was one of the invited panelists.

During this workshop, the panelists discussed how local businesses could become more engaged in civic and legislative processes. In particular, panelists discussed how to identify the appropriate committees for businesses, as well as some tips on how to get heard. For example, Claiborne recommended attending Caucus, the meetings before Council sessions, to get in front of City Council members.

Other tips included getting involved in advocacy and membership organizations, such as the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia and GBCA, which can help business owners navigate the legislative process, and provide additional resources.
