On January 16, 2017, ACE Mentor Program/GBCA/NRCC/Turner Construction Company made the MLK Day of Service 2017 project a HUGE success! There were over 150 volunteers at Francis Myers Recreational Center on Monday. Over 60 people helped construct about 40 cedar flower boxes to beautify the block of Cecil Street adjacent to the Cecil Street Garden. And the flower boxes were gorgeous! A few special thank yous: Tiffany Millner of ACE Mentor Program of Eastern PA for all her help planning and executing. Marsha Wall and Victoria Chambliss from Empowered CDC for orchestrating so many details. Turner Construction Company’s awesome crew of carpenters who joined us, led the project, provided tools and lumber, and did the take-off. Tague Lumber who helped with the materials. Councilman Johnson and Senator Williams, and their entire teams – it meant so much to the community and our volunteers that you joined us! Mungu Sanchez, Rob Naughton, and the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters who provided some amazing skilled labor to help us out and lead our teams, and the Carpenters JAC who did all of our precuts! Kim Douglas and all the students who came from Philadelphia University to help! And every single person who had a hand in building and planning! What a way to kick off a successful 2017!
