Simpson & Brown is an industry leader in deep foundation services, heavy civil services and marine construction. The company’s roots can be traced back to the late 1600s when the Brown brothers brought their experience in waterfront construction to the U.S. from England. By 1731, they had started a harbor side construction business in Boston. In 1831, they moved from Boston to New York, where the company established a reputation for quality in the extremely competitive New York/New Jersey waterways construction business. Since the dawn of the 20th Century, Simpson & Brown (so named when Princeton-educated engineer Charles R. Simpson joined the firm and became President) has maintained their reputation for excellence – performing work from New York to Philadelphia.

Simpson & Brown self-performs utility work, excavation, deep foundation, and structural concrete work. Their turnkey approach to Heavy Civil Services reduces potential contracting conflicts and allows for additional economies of scale. They specialize in pile supported concrete foundations. In addition to building sites, their crews regularly install Geosynthetic Clay Liner, as well as all civil work typically required in chemical and fuel storage facilities.

Simpson & Brown regularly performs the installation of steel sheeting and tiebacks for support of excavation as well as cofferdam design and installation. For facilities with vibration concerns, their Deep Foundation Services include drilled micro piles and helical piles. Simpson & Brown constructs foundations requiring driven pipe pile, h-pile, and timber pile. They have the ability to install multiple deep foundation systems.

Simpson & Brown’s Marine Construction Services include the construction and repair of piers, bulkheads, cells, and fender systems. Their past experience includes the construction of new marinas and wharves. Simpson & Brown has performed work in the waterways surrounding the NY/NJ/Philadelphia areas for many years, including storm sewer outfalls installed to prevent future flooding after Superstorm Sandy. They can perform dock surveys and assist in the design phase of any project to ensure a quality project constructed on time and within budget.

Simpson & Brown’s commitment to safety is paramount in all operations. Their Safety Department is involved in the project during the bid process offering insight to the estimator as required. Once the project is awarded, the Project Manager, Superintendent, and Safety Department develop the Health and Safety Plan specific to the job, considering all facility and owner requirements.

Nick Morrisey is the Project Manager for the Philadelphia area.
