GBCA 2026 Construction Excellence Awards
The GBCA Construction Excellence Awards is the premier construction awards program in the Philadelphia region, celebrating outstanding achievements by GBCA member companies across all facets of the industry.
The project awards are organized into broader categories, each with clearly defined subcategories. These updated groupings allow for a wider variety of projects to be recognized while making it easier for applicants to determine the best fit for their submission.
Each project category will also be evaluated using project pricing tiers to ensure a fair comparison between large-scale, mid-sized, and smaller builds. This structure helps level the playing field and acknowledges that excellence happens at every scale.

Project-based Awards
Building Transformation
Recognizing projects where the primary scope involves the repurposing, adaptive reuse, or major transformation of an existing structure while maintaining its core structural framework.
These projects significantly redefine how an existing building functions, often introducing new uses, systems, or structural modifications while working within the constraints of the original structure.
Renovation
Recognizing projects where the primary scope involves renovation or modernization within an existing building that remains partially or fully occupied during construction.
These projects require careful coordination to ensure the safety of building occupants while construction is underway.
Excellence in Craftsmanship – Finish & Detail
Recognizing construction work where the quality of finish, precision of detailing, and aesthetic execution represent exceptional craftsmanship.
This category is open to General Contractors only, recognizing their role in delivering high-quality finished work across multiple trades.
Excellence in Craftsmanship – Technical Execution
Recognizing construction work where the technical difficulty, engineering complexity, and precision of execution represent exceptional craftsmanship.
This category is open to General Contractors only, recognizing their role in leading complex construction efforts that require advanced coordination, planning, and execution across multiple trades.
Projects in this category often involve work that may not be visually obvious but requires extraordinary technical expertise, planning, and execution.
Examples include but are not limited to:
- Complex structural modifications
- Precision engineering execution
- Highly technical construction sequencing
- Specialized installation methods
- Construction work performed under extreme constraints
- Demonstrate safe execution of technically complex work
This category recognizes projects where how the work was executed represents a significant technical achievement. Best suited for projects where exceptional construction execution is demonstrated through technical difficulty or engineering complexity.

This category recognizes projects where the primary scope involves the construction of a new structure, including horizontal addition projects that significantly expand an existing facility through new construction.
Trade-Specific Excellence
Recognizing outstanding execution by contractors performing work within a specific construction trade scope.
This category is open to Subcontractors only, highlighting the expertise, precision, coordination, safety practices, and problem-solving required to successfully execute specialized trade work.
Submissions must reflect your firm’s specific scope of work. Project value, scope, challenges, and impact should be described based on your trade contract—not the total project value or overall project scope.
To ensure fair evaluation across the wide range of construction trades, this category is organized into three groups:
- Structural & Building Systems
- Examples: Concrete, steel, masonry, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, glazing, elevators, exc.
- Focus: technical systems, engineering integration, execution
- Architectural & Finishing Trades:
