June 4, 2019 - 12:00pm - WEBINAR: Target Value Delivery: Leveraging Builder Expertise to Deliver a Better Building

Target Value Delivery is a set of lean design and construction practices developed from an understanding of lean principles that integrates the work of people planning, design, and constructing a building project. The intent is to develop a facility that aligns with the operational needs and values of the users, is delivered within an allowable budget, and promotes innovation throughout the development process.

This webinar will focus on Target Value Delivery from a builder’s perspective. It will include a brief introduction to lean design and construction, including background on the development of the Target Value Delivery. It will continue with a description of the builder’s role in each of the core practices, and conclude with a case study of how the practices were used on a recent project.

Who Should Attend? Senior level management focused on client relationships, project managers, and cost estimators from construction managers, general contractors, and trade contractors.

AGC of America recognizes GBCA’s Target Value Delivery Webinar as qualifying for continuing education hours towards the renewal of AGC’s Certificate of Management-Lean Construction (CM-Lean). Each hour of educational content is equal to 1 hour of CE credit. Attendees may earn 1 hour of CE Credit by attending this webinar.

Presenters:

Tom Richert, Principal, Lean Project Consulting, Inc.

Tom coaches lean transformations at the project team and enterprise levels, primarily for owners, architects, contractors, and suppliers in the building design and construction industry. His approach employs a combination of team-based training with hands-on simulations followed by on-the-job observations and coaching, often on a one-on-one basis. His current focus is on helping leadership and project teams develop sustained enthusiasm for lean practices.

Tom began his work with lean principles in 2000 while working at the Linbeck Group, a founding member of the Lean Construction Institute. He was responsible for leading the implementation of lean practices on two New England projects in 2001 and co-designed and delivered companywide lean training workshops. His undergraduate degree in architecture is from Washington University.

Tom has lectured on lean construction at the University of California, Berkeley, and the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. He is a member of the Lean Construction Institute (LCI), and has presented work at past LCI annual conferences. He has facilitated workshops at conferences for Lean Frontiers, the Lean Enterprise Institute, and the Lean Construction Institute; and is a contributor to the Lean Enterprise Institute Lean Post. He is author of Lean Conversations, reporting insights from his work that John Shook, Executive Chairman of the Lean Enterprise Institute, calls the beginning of a landmark initiative.

Susan Pratt Reinhardt, LEED AP, PMP, Associate Principal, Lean Project Consulting, Inc.

Susan began her career as an architect in 1991 designing schools in Switzerland. She excels at managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders, and has acted as project manager for public projects ranging from a $1.5M mountain library to $30M recreation centers to a $4B university in Saudi Arabia.

Susan quickly developed a reputation for rescuing failing projects and bringing order out of chaos. She began developing new project management methods early in her career to ensure that projects were successful from the beginning. She now coaches project teams on Lean methods, helping them thoroughly satisfy their clients on time and on budget, without resorting to work holidays or weekends!

June 26, 2019 - 5:00pm - GBCA Safety Awards Reception

GBCA invites member safety professionals, executives, and owners to a reception to celebrate and honor those GBCA members who have received safety awards in 2018; these awards include the Associated General Contractors of America's National Safety Awards and the GBCA Project Safety Awards.

GBCA has a long-standing commitment to safety in the commercial construction workplace, and has continued to reinforce our credibility in the construction industry and safety communities. Safety awards provide member firms with a source of pride and prestige. Our award programs provide the opportunity to document your firm’s achievements in safety, receive well-deserved recognition from your peers in the industry, and provide you a competitive advantage.

Project Safety Awards are designed to acknowledge safe work sites by providing the site owners with a plaque commemorating safe work performed by GBCA members while assigned to their projects.  The GBCA produces the plaque which is then given to the eligible member.  The member, at their convenience, then presents the plaque to the owner or their representative.

To learn more about the Project Safety Awards, or to submit for a Project Safety Award, CLICK HERE.

This event will include an open bar, hors d'ouevres, and complimentary parking!

**Parking is located in back of the building.**

September 9, 2019 - 4:30pm - The Principles of Estimating: 10-Week Series

Principles of Estimating is a 10-week basics level course, designed to cover the values of estimating and prepare professionals with an understanding of the estimating process.
