United Academy Online Safety Training

GBCA has partnered with United Academy (powered by United Rentals) to offer online safety training courses designed for safety professionals and construction trades workers alike.

Fall Protection for Construction Workers

Member $20, Non-Member $40
Length of Training: 25 Minutes

This training session provides important information on fall protection at construction sites.

Falls cause more deaths in construction than any other hazard. Prevent falls by planning to get the job done safely, providing the right fall protection equipment, and training all workers to use the equipment safely. Anyone who is exposed to potential fall hazards must be trained to identify these hazards and how to effectively use fall protection.

Training Topics:

  • Recognize fall hazards and identify when fall protection is needed
  • Use basic fall protection systems
  • Prevent objects from falling
  • Inspect personal fall arrest systems
  • Rescue yourself and others from falls

This training program focuses on the needs of the “end user”, and upon successful completion, will provide an updated operator’s certificate and wallet card.

Ladder Safety

Every year many workers are injured or killed because of ladder accidents. This training will help prevent and minimize injuries from ladder falls.

Training Topics:

  • Recognize the importance of ladder safety.
  • Identify common causes of ladder accidents.
  • Select and inspect ladders correctly.
  • Set up ladders properly.
  • Climb and work on ladders safely.

This training program focuses on the needs of the “end user”, and upon successful completion, will provide an updated operator’s certificate and wallet card.

Silica Safety

Member $20, Non-Member $40
Length of Training: 30 Minutes

In this introductory online safety course, you will learn about the basics of Silica and Respirable Crystalline Silica Dust encountered during construction activities.

Crystalline silica is a common mineral found in the earth’s crust. Materials like sand, stone, concrete, and mortar contain crystalline silica. It is also used to make products such as glass, pottery, ceramics, bricks, and artificial stone. Workers who inhale these very small crystalline silica particles are at increased risk of developing serious silica-related diseases, including silicosis, lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and kidney disease.

Exposure to respirable crystalline silica can occur during common construction tasks. About two million construction workers are exposed to respirable crystalline silica in over 600,000 workplaces.

Training Topics:

  • Understand what silica is and the different types
  • Be aware of silica hazards in the workplace
  • Be able to prevent exposure to silica through control methods
  • Know the best practices with dealing with silica exposure
  • Be informed on the first aid of silica exposure

This training program focuses on the needs of the “end user”, and upon successful completion, will provide an updated operator’s certificate and wallet card.
