Philadelphia marked the official ribbon cutting of Calder Gardens, the city’s newest cultural landmark on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The $70 million project, dedicated to Philadelphia-born sculptor Alexander “Sandy” Calder, was built by LF Driscoll in collaboration with world-renowned design team Herzog & de Meuron and landscape architect Piet Oudolf.
Local officials, community leaders, and arts supporters gathered to open the 18,000-square-foot museum and 1.8-acre gardens, which seamlessly integrate Calder’s iconic work with architecture and nature. The space features winding pathways, below-ground galleries, and meadow-like gardens designed for reflection and discovery.
