For more than a century, James J. Clearkin, Inc. has been a trusted construction management and general contracting firm serving institutions and businesses across the Delaware Valley. Established in 1918 by company founder James J. Clearkin, Sr., the firm began as a small bricklaying operation before expanding into a respected general construction company specializing in industrial and commercial work throughout the early and mid-20th century.

Following World War II, James J. Clearkin, Jr. joined the family business and broadened its expertise to include institutional construction—ultimately overseeing the building and renovation of hundreds of schools, churches, and community facilities. Over the years, health care construction has also become an important and growing segment of the company’s portfolio.

Today, the third and fourth generations of the Clearkin family continue to lead the organization, carrying forward a long-standing tradition of delivering quality, cost-effective construction with a level of personal attention that has defined the company for more than 100 years. This strong commitment to integrity, craftsmanship, and client service remains central to the firm’s identity and success.

James J. Clearkin, Sr., James J. Clearkin, Jr., and Joseph P. Clearkin each served as GBCA Past Presidents, reflecting the family’s deep leadership legacy and lasting contributions to the region’s union construction industry.
