On September 21, GBCA hosted a Mental Health Awareness Safety Stand Down at Turner Construction Company’s jobsite in Wilmington, Delaware, bringing workers together for an important conversation about mental health and well-being in the construction industry.
Held during Suicide Prevention Month, the stand down focused on raising awareness, encouraging open conversations, and reminding workers of the importance of looking out for themselves and one another.
GBCA Safety Consultant Jim McGugan spoke with workers about prioritizing mental health, recognizing when someone may need support, and checking in with the people around them. He emphasized that even a simple conversation or asking a coworker how they are doing can make a difference.
GBCA also distributed mental health awareness T-shirts and hard hat stickers to help continue the conversation beyond the stand down.
