On Thursday June 21st, City Council overwhelmingly voted to pass a Housing Trust Fund Bill which would create a new sub fund to receive the revenue created by the proposed 1% Construction Impact Tax. The 1% Construction Impact Tax, however, only passed by a very slim margin in a vote of 9-8. Councilmembers Cindy Bass, Jamie Blackwell, Allan Domb, Derek Green, Bobby Henon, Brian O’Neill, David Oh, and Al Taubenberger were all ‘No’ votes on the bill.

While the bill was passed by City Council, it now heads to the Mayor Kenney’s desk. There has been some talk of the Mayor vetoing this bill when City Council returns in September. All eyes will be on the Mayor’s decision to veto or sign the tax into law. GBCA will continue to work closely with our partners to oppose this legislation.
