In 2016 GBCA partnered with the Charter High School for Architecture and Design (CHAD) and created the CHAD Hard Hat Club. This after school club allows students interested in careers in the construction industry direct access to contractors and jobsites in a two-part series: intimate presentations on a specific project and the opportunity to visit that same job site, for a post-presentation, private tour.
Past tours took place at the University of Pennsylvania’s Stemmler Hall (Torcon, Inc.), Philadelphia Fashion District (Skanska USA Building and Shoemaker Construction Co.).
The GBCA Education Committee is looking for member companies to partner with local middle schools to encourage students to pursue careers in construction. This is a pilot program that the Education Committee is reviewing for possible implementation in late 2018.
If a member company is interested in becoming a partner to a school, please contact Anne Liberto, Director of Membership Services and Development at firstname.lastname@example.org.
It has been said that only we can motivate ourselves. In other words, each individual is responsible for maintaining their own energy, drive, and consistent productivity.
GBCA's Construction Leadership Council's first Leadership Series program is on Motivational Leadership, and will be held on February 6, 2018 at 12pm.
