MyWIC Camp is a free, six-day camp available to girls in 7th through 12th grade that ran from June 25-29, 2018. Besides introducing the girls to construction and the numerous career opportunities available to women in a construction related field, the camp partnered with several of the local trade unions in the Philadelphia area to make this education and rewarding. Attendees also got to have conversations with women in the field, such as Layla Bibi, a union carpenter.
Many young girls are unaware that a career in construction can be extremely fun and financially rewarding. MyWIC Camp is designed to give girls real hands-on experience to gain better knowledge of the industry. Girls experience the exhilaration of successfully performing tasks that promote leadership and team-building skills, as well as build self-confidence, self-esteem, and boost their overall self-image.
The NAWIC Philadelphia Chapter hosted its first camp in 2009 and has continued to gain tremendous support and popularity since then. GBCA is proud to sponsor MyWIC Camp 2018 and encourage young women to enter the construction industry. Thanks to the organizers, volunteers, sponsors, and attendees for a great camp!
