Perryman Shoemaker recently received certification as a Minority Business Enterprise through the National Minority Supplier Development Council. Perryman Shoemaker is an established joint-venture of Perryman Building and Construction Services, a certified Minority Business Enterprise providing construction leadership since 1954, and Shoemaker Construction Co., a member of The Butz Family of Companies, a Top 400 General Contractor. The firms joined forces to help clients achieve their goals of inclusion and diversity. Together, Perryman Shoemaker aims to transform an industry that has historically been reluctant to change.
Perryman and Shoemaker have a long history of working together on joint venture projects. Since 2004, Perryman and Shoemaker have successfully completed more than $147 million worth of construction projects together including Temple University Medical Center’s Carlisle Street Garage and LEAP Academy Charter Schools’ STEM High School in Camden. Together, Perryman Shoemaker brings the benefit of deep relevant experience with local subcontractors and suppliers as well as a thorough understanding of applicable regulations and processes.
“We identified our strengths and determined that this certification was the best way to increase our value to both our clients and the community,” said Angelo Perryman, President of Perryman Building.
Perryman Building and Construction is one of the leading family owned, full-service construction companies providing services since 1954. Perryman has been on an upward growth trajectory built on a reputation that “quality jobs performed by quality people always counts.” In 2008, Perryman was recognized by the US Department of Commerce as the Minority Construction Firm of the Year in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Shoemaker has been recognized locally by the GBCA and nationally by the Associated General Contractors of America for its diversity and inclusion successes.
Shoemaker remains committed to affording minority and women-owned businesses and craft workers an equal opportunity to compete for and subsequently participate in all phases of construction projects. We achieve this through business and job fairs, low income inclusion, on-site tours of current projects for students, and active workforce diversity recruitment in the building trades.
The national Minority Business Enterprise certification allows Perryman Shoemaker to reach the next level of diversity on construction projects while helping clients achieve their goals of inclusion. “We are confident that we are helping pave the way for greater opportunities for this community to grow and set a standard going forward,” said Maura Hesdon, Shoemaker’s General Manager.
