While the COVID-19 pandemic continued through 2021, Philadelphia’s union commercial construction industry continued to build. Following strict health and safety protocols, GBCA members worked to complete major healthcare projects. The Philadelphia Business Journal highlighted three Philadelphia-area hospitals that were completed in 2021. Two of these three projects were built by GBCA members and all three feature GBCA members in the workforce.

Penn Medicine’s Pavilion

Penn Medicine’s $1.6 billion project had an early partial open date in 2020, but was finished in 2021. The project was built by LF Driscoll in a joint venture with Balfour Beatty US, along with additional GBCA members.

Jefferson Health Silvestri Tower in Washington Township

This $222 million campus project features a tower opened in July 2021, and was built by GBCA member P. Agnes, Inc. The project won GBCA’s 2021 Construction Excellence Award for Best Healthcare Project.

Arcadia Healthcare Belmont Hospital

Arcadia Healthcare opened the $125 million replacement hospital for Belmont Behavioral Hospital in 2021. GBCA member Brightline Construction provided structural concrete work, and Eureka Metal and Glass provided exterior curtain wall, storefront, and punched openings.

The Philadelphia Business Journal also highlighted three major upcoming healthcare projects, two of which are being built by GBCA members:
