Penn State’s Digital Twin: A Future Vision

In this session, we will look at how Penn State University is moving from BIM to digital twins. Here are the main points that will be discussed:
- How is BIM implemented on Penn State capital projects?
- What is an operational digital twin and how does it benefit the owners?
- What needs to be done to create an operational digital twin?
- What are the challenges in the way of creating and leveraging digital twins?
About Zahra Ghorbani
Zahra Ghorbani is the BIM manager at Penn State. She monitors the execution of BIM on capital projects and works on improving the BIM standards and requirements for Penn State BIM program. She is also a Ph.D. candidate at the department of Architectural Engineering and does research on leveraging real-time data building automation system (BAS) and record BIM to develop operational digital twins for operations and maintenance. She received a B.E. in architectural engineering from Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran, Iran, and completed her M.S. in construction management at Texas A&M University.
