On Saturday, January 17, GBCA, the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters, and the Carpenters Contractor Trust (CCT) came together to host the annual CARP Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.

The event brought together Carpenters’ Apprentice Ready Program (CARP) pre-apprentices, program alumni, EASCTC instructors, and volunteers to build park benches, which were delivered by the Carpenters to community locations throughout the city on January 20. This hands-on service project honored Dr. King’s legacy by uniting workforce development, community engagement, and service.

Gilbane Building Company sponsored this year’s event by donating all building materials and providing lunch for volunteers and pre-apprentices.

The event was also attended by Philadelphia City Council Members Katherine Gilmore Richardson, Isaiah Thomas, Mark Squilla, Jeffery Young, Rue Landau, Nicolas O’Rourke, and Kendra Brooks, along with Pennsylvania State Representatives Darisha Parker, Morgan Cephas, Chris Rabb, Pat Gallagher, and Sean Dougherty, as well as Commonwealth Court Judge Lori Dumas. All were able to engage with students and show their support for workforce development and community service initiatives.
