Listen to the latest podcast from Carpenter Contractor Trust: in this episode, William Sproule, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters, discusses misclassification, a form of tax fraud in the construction industry.

The bigger problem that we face in the carpenters union is there’s a growing trend that large construction contracts, get subcontracted out to subcontractors who are actively exploiting their workforce by paying low wages and off the books. Most of the time there’s no taxes being paid to local, state and federal governments. They also circumvent most of the states workmen’s compensation laws by not reporting payroll for a substantial amount of workers.
