On July 29, 2019, GBCA met with Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick to discuss ongoing federal activities in Washington, D.C. The Congressman arrived at GBCA after a signing ceremony that morning at the White House for the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund Act, which he successfully championed to the President’s desk.

Congressman Fitzpatrick wants to better understand the challenges that contractors face with the ongoing multiemployer pension crisis. As a strong supporter on the issue, he voted for the Butch Lewis Act (HR 397) which passed the house on July 24th and creates relief for underperforming multiemployer pensions. While the House successfully passed the bill, it is not expected to be enacted without more dialogue on the funding mechanisms. GBCA representatives reiterated our continued support of AGC of America’s effort to propose common sense principles for pension reform (click below to read the principles).

During his visit, Congressman Fitzpatrick also expressed a strong interest in visiting GBCA member projects in his district. His district covers all of Bucks County and a portion of Montgomery County. We are working with the Congressman’s district office to put together a series of district site visits in the Fall. If you are interested in having the Congressman tour your project, please contact Lance Claiborne.
