CPWR – The Center for Construction Research and Training is hosting an upcoming webinar focused on new research related to mental health in the construction industry. With suicide and overdose rates remaining critical concerns, CPWR is dedicated to driving change through both research and action.
As part of its commitment to improving mental health in construction, CPWR recently funded five small research studies. This webinar will highlight findings from three of these projects, offering valuable insights and actionable strategies for supporting worker well-being.
Featured Presentations:
- Dr. Jonathan Davis, University of Iowa epidemiologist, will examine the impact of employment laws on construction worker suicide, including whether access to paid leave provides a protective factor.
- Allison Weingarten of MDB, Inc. will share lessons learned from a partnership with Local 1 of the International Union of Elevator Constructors, focusing on scaling up union-based peer support programs.
- Edmund Robison of Sheet Metal Occupational Health Institute Trust Inc. (SMOHIT) will discuss the naloxone training and access program, piloted and distributed in collaboration with the Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation Union, as a strategy to combat opioid overdoses in the industry.
Following the presentations, attendees will have the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session with the panelists.
