On Friday, October 22, the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office hosted a virtual event introducing Governor Tom Wolf ‘s Joint Task Force on Misclassification of Employees.
The members of the Task Force, including Deputy Secretary for Safety and Labor-Management Relations Basil Meredith, Chief Deputy Attorney General Nancy Walker, Deputy Secretary for Taxation Bryan Barbin, Joanne Managanello of LIUNA , Drew Simpson of the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters , Hank Butler of PA Aggregates & Concrete Association , and Lance Claiborne of GBCA, discussed its approach to prosecuting unscrupulous contractors using Act 72.
The Task Force also presented a report for the legislature with recommendations to address the misclassification of workers. The final recommendations will provide a path to ensure that PA laws maintain a fair business environment and protects workers by properly distinguishing employees from independent contractors.
