On February 7, 2024, GBCA and Bittenbender Construction, LP visited the Mayfair Middle School CTE (Career Training Education) Building Trades Program. During the visit, GBCA delivered a $2144 donation check for the program that was raised at our 50/50 ball drop raffle during our Golf Classic event in October of 2023.
Ryan Heston, Project Manager for Bittenbender Construction, LP was a featured guest and spoke to students on the Dope Student podcast. Ryan talked about his past and how the experience helped him get where he is today, and what projects he is most proud of. He also talked about the importance of CTE programs, and how growing up he had little access to this type of education growing up.
Mayfair Middle School’s CTE program, run by Mr. Evin Jarrett, is the only Building Trades Program for middle school students in the City of Philadelphia.
This program provides students the opportunity to pursue their HBI PACT Core Certification. The HBI PACT Core Certification is a nationally recognized credential that equips students with the foundational skills needed for success in the construction industry. The Building Trades Program will immerse students in hands-on learning experiences, where they will master essential skills such as carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, and more by building a structure in the school’s parking lot.
