Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced awards totaling more than $4.9 million for 14 Pennsylvania apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs within the building and construction trades. Each program will use this grant funding to develop diverse talent pipelines, reach underrepresented populations, and expand workforce development opportunities across 55 counties in Pennsylvania.

Philadelphia’s Samuel Staten Sr. Pre-Apprenticeship Program (SSSPAP) was awarded $392,273. SSSPAP help Philadelphia residents who are people of color and women enter building and construction trade union apprenticeships.

The grants, offered through L&I’s Apprenticeship and Training Office (ATO), are part of Governor Wolf’s PA Statewide Movement for Accountability, Readiness and Training (PAsmart) framework, created to better align education, workforce and economic development initiatives and funding.
