On June 18, GBCA hosted Hoagies with OSHA: Trench Safety Awareness at the Eastern Atlantic States Carpenters Technical Center, featuring a powerful presentation by trench collapse survivor Eric Giguere.
Over hoagies from Marinucci’s Deli, attendees gathered for an afternoon dedicated to reinforcing the importance of trench safety. Eric shared his harrowing firsthand account of being buried alive in a trench collapse while working as a laborer. He walked the audience through the moment of the incident, his difficult recovery, and the life-altering impact it had on him and his family.
His message was clear: never take shortcuts with safety. Eric emphasized that no task is worth risking your life, and that proper trench safety protocols must always be followed—every time, without exception.
