The Preservation Trades Center (PTC) at Eastern State Penitentiary is starting a Carpentry Academy in 2023, a 6-week paid hands-on training carpentry program with an emphasis on preservation work. Through specialty trade academies, the PTC connects Philadelphia communities that are underrepresented in the construction and museum sectors — including returning citizens, women, and people of color — to long-term careers in the construction industry.
With support from GBCA member Window Repairs & Restoration, LLC and the Carpenters Joint Apprentice Training Center of Philadelphia & Vicinity, as well as Rebuild Philadelphia and Pennsylvania Career Link, the program is accepting applications until January 6, 2023, and the sessions start on February 27, 2023.
PTC is holding five information sessions, the first being on Tuesday, December 6, 2022.
