Struck-by incidents remain one of the leading causes of injuries and fatalities in the construction industry, making hazard awareness and prevention a top priority for job site safety. To support this effort, CPWR—The Center for Construction Research and Training—has released a comprehensive suite of resources aimed at helping contractors, safety professionals, and workers identify, mitigate, and prevent struck-by hazards in the field.
April is recognized as National Stand-Down to Prevent Struck-By Incidents Month, an industry-wide campaign led by the NORA Construction Sector Council in partnership with CPWR and OSHA. The month-long initiative encourages construction employers and workers to take time to focus on struck-by hazards through targeted training, toolbox talks, and other safety activities. The campaign is part of a larger commitment to addressing the OSHA “Focus Four” hazards, which are the leading causes of construction fatalities.
The CPWR Struck-By Hazards Resource Library consolidates research-based tools, educational materials, and real-world strategies for reducing incidents involving falling, flying, swinging, or rolling objects. These resources are designed to complement OSHA’s Focus Four Hazards campaign and assist in implementing practical, proven safety practices on construction sites.
Included in the collection are toolbox talks, safety checklists, data summaries, and training videos that focus on high-risk activities such as working around heavy equipment, operating vehicles in congested zones, and handling materials overhead. Many of the materials are available in both English and Spanish to ensure accessibility and effective communication across diverse teams.
