Aramark announced on October 30, 2020, that its global headquarters office space, located at 2400 Market Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has received LEED Silver certification, by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), for its sustainable workspace design and construction. The building is certified under the LEED for Interior Design and Construction (LEED ID+C) rating system, which encourages the design and construction of commercial interiors that are good for people and the planet.

The office fit-out was built by C. Erickson & Sons, Inc. Other GBCA members involved in the project included:

  • Component Assembly Systems, Inc.
  • Dale Construction LLC
  • Hatzel & Buehler, inc.
  • Paul Rabinowitz Glass Co.
  • Steven Kempf Building Materials.

The project also won two 2019 Construction Excellence Awards: Best Fit-Out Project and Excellence in Craftsmanship.

Earlier, the 2400 Market Street building, owned by a joint venture of The Lubert-Adler Real Estate Funds and PMC Property Group, was initially awarded LEED Gold certification as a new construction project. Both certifications underscore Aramark’s sustainability goals of improving the well-being of people and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2025.

“Our goal in designing our new home was to ‘future-proof’ the workplace,” said Marc S. Liciardello, Vice President of Corporate Services, Aramark. “While our employees may be working remotely, due to the pandemic, the forward-looking design sustains remote work productivity as we look forward to their eventual return to 2400 Market. This LEED recognition reinforces Aramark’s commitment to offering efficient and meaningful solutions for the well-being of our employees, customers, partners, community and environment.”

“By prioritizing sustainability, Aramark is leading the way in their industry and helping USGBC continue towards our goal of green buildings for everyone within this generation,” said Mahesh Ramanujam, president and CEO, USGBC.

The Company’s headquarters includes a wellness center, biophilia rooms, outdoor terraces, and a showcase state-of-the-art dining facility and test kitchen. Specific sustainability highlights include:

  • Water saving fixtures reduce water consumption by 35%
  • Efficient lighting decreases lighting power density to 40% below code
  • Over 90% of all appliances hold Energy Star certifications
  • Local manufacturer materials and certified Forest Stewardship Council’s (FSC) wood was used throughout
  • 75% of construction materials were diverted from landfills
  • Bike storage and shower facilities were incorporated to support wellness programs and biker and walker commuting

Aramark, which has called Philadelphia home since 1961, relocated its new world headquarters to 2400 Market Street in December 2018. Originally built as a Hudson Motor Car Company plant in the 1920s, 2400 Market Street’s structure has been transformed into a modern, 600,000 square foot, nine-story building with an emphasis on innovation, sustainability and green space. As the anchor tenant of 2400 Market, Aramark occupies five newly constructed floors, consisting of nearly 300,000 square feet, with sweeping river views.
