Philadelphia (May 25, 2017) — General Building Contractors Association (GBCA) was presented today with a resolution from Philadelphia City Council in formal recognition of its work that has increased awareness of safe construction practices in the City of Philadelphia, specifically during Construction Safety Week, held May 1-5, 2017.
At the City Council meeting on Thursday, May 25, 2017, a Safety Week resolution that was passed unanimously by City Council on April 27 was read. Councilman Bobby Henon, who represents Philadelphia’s 6th Council District in Northeast Philadelphia, formally presented a copy of the resolution recognizing GBCA’s instrumental role in promoting safe construction practices to Mary Pat Geppert, President, Geppert Bros Inc., Chair of GBCA Safety Committee; James J. Dolente, Sr., chairman, GBCA, and chairman of the board, Madison Concrete Construction; Benjamin J. Connors, Esq., president, GBCA; and members of the GBCA Safety Committee. The Safety Committee includes safety representatives from top safety consultation companies and general contractors throughout Greater Philadelphia.
Construction Safety Week is an annual event that encourages the construction industry to work together to strengthen its safety culture. During the week, special safety training and education activities are conducted to share best practices and to ensure safety preparedness and awareness among every worker, on every jobsite, every day.
“Construction Safety Week is a perfect time to remember that every week is a safety week on a construction site,” said Henon. “I am proud to have introduced a resolution recognizing Construction Safety Week across the City of Philadelphia. I thank GBCA, the Philadelphia Building & Construction Trades Council, and all our skilled workers for drawing attention to this crucial aspect of the construction process, and for fostering an environment where the health and safety of everyone on a construction site is top priority.”
“The GBCA greatly appreciates the work that City Council, and city departments such as Licenses & Inspections, have done to ensure that Philadelphia continues to be a city focused on safe, injury-free construction work,” said Geppert, as she accepted the resolution. “Through the City’s efforts, and the continued work of the GBCA Safety Committee, we will continue to emphasize safety as the number one focus in the Philadelphia construction industry and keep Philadelphia a safe construction city.”
“With Philadelphia currently experiencing a boom in construction, now more than ever, there is a need for construction safety awareness in our communities,” said Connors. “GBCA is grateful for the opportunity to work closely with the City of Philadelphia and its City Council to pass regulations encouraging safe and injury-free construction in Philadelphia.”
