ACE Mentor Program Announces 2017 Scholarship Breakfast May 17

The ACE Mentor Program of Eastern Pennsylvania will host 400+ members of the architecture, engineering, and construction communities Wednesday, May 17, 2017 for an annual scholarship presentation and awards ceremony. One local organization and two projects will be honored.

WHAT: The ACE Mentor Program of Eastern Pennsylvania, an affiliate of a national non-profit, engages and enlightens high school students to consider careers in design and construction through mentoring, scholarships, and grants. Students are recruited from public and private schools, with special effort made to reach underrepresented populations of women and minorities.

Under the mentorship of professionals from leading design and construction firms, teams of students work on a range of informative and stimulating after-school activities, including field trips to active construction sites, discussions with project managers, tours of professional offices, and more. In addition, each team works on a design project that addresses “real-life” conditions.

For academic year 2016-2017, 11 teams of professional mentors serve 300 students from Philadelphia high schools; another 150 students participate on suburban teams.

WHY: The ACE Mentor Program successfully attracts students to pursue careers in architecture, engineering, or construction. 69 percent of ACE alumni currently major in these fields or are already employed. At the 2016 breakfast, ACE Eastern Pa. awarded $48,000 in scholarships.

The annual scholarship breakfast attracts more than 400 members of the design and construction community, who join ACE board members and mentors to honor industry leadership. ACE students attend and participate in the program; two female ACE alumni will offer keynote and closing statements on the importance of ACE to their career development.
