Artist Robert Indiana, 89, creator of the iconic LOVE sculpture in Philadelphia’s LOVE Park, has died at his home in Maine.

Although there are several copies of the statue around the world, the one in LOVE Park is the most notable one, and beloved by Philadelphians. A second LOVE statue sits in the University of Pennsylvania campus, and AMOR, created by Indiana in 1998, sits in Sister Cities Park on the Parkway.

LOVE Park is currently being renovated, with construction being done by Bittenbender Construction and Turner Construction Company.

During the first part of the renovation, the statue was removed and restored. On February 13, 2018, the statue was moved and placed onto its new pedestal in the park by George Young Mammoet (pictured above).
