The Butz Family of Companies, consisting of Alexander Building Construction Co., Alvin H. Butz, Inc. and GBCA member Shoemaker Construction Co., will participate in Women in Construction (WIC) Week by promoting the accomplishments of female leaders working at the three companies and sharing their stories from careers in construction management on social media.
WIC Week is celebrated March 4 through March 11, and on each of these days The Butz Family of Companies will feature a different female employee and have her answer questions about what it’s like being a woman working in the construction industry. She will describe her typical workday, what influenced her to join the industry, lessons learned and give advice to young women interested in pursuing careers in construction management.
The women who will be featured are: Wendy Body (Senior Project Manager, Alvin H. Butz, Inc.), Maura Hesdon (General Manager, Shoemaker Construction Co.), Sara Leon (Project Manager, Shoemaker Construction Co.), Karen Mayes (Project Manager, Alexander Building Construction Co. – State College), Margaret McConnell (Enterprise Marketing Manager, The Butz Family of Companies), Wendy Silfies (Project Manager, Alvin H. Butz, Inc.) and Semi Toshi (Project Engineer, Shoemaker Construction Co.).
Maura Hesdon is a GBCA board member.

WIC Week is organized by the National Association of Women in Construction. The goal of the event is to emphasize women as a key part of the construction industry and promote careers in construction to women.
