For Women in Construction Week, March 5-11, 2023, we are recognizing some of the women working on project teams in the Philadelphia region’s construction industry. These women and their companies are changing the Philadelphia region, both its physical and cultural landscapes.

This week, we’re spotlighting women from INTECH Construction, LLC.

Margie Arendt, Project Manager

What is one thing you love about working in the construction industry?

I love being an integral part of the construction teams, collaborating with everyone involved: the owner, design teams, management teams, and the trades in the field, who collectively make a vision reality. I also love being on site facilitating a building taking shape, knowing first-hand the countless details, and helping resolve the challenges of numerous buildings that have contributed to the growth of Philadelphia, the city in which I live.

What advice do you have for women interested in a career in construction?

Pursue your interests with conviction and be the most prepared person in the room.

Colleen Mills, Project Director

What is one thing you love about working in the construction industry?

I love being part of a collaborative team flooded with professionals from developers, architects, engineers, varied building trades, etc., who combine their expertise to create something tangible for people to live in, work in, play in, grow in, for years to come. After we devote so much time and effort into each project, we get to look back on that structure and how it’s being used in its final stage with gratitude for being part of something bigger

What advice do you have for women interested in a career in construction?

There is always something to learn from anyone in this field despite their rank, use that to your advantage to become better, wiser, stronger. This industry needs more women, and we need to support and mentor other women in the field. Strong organizations such as CREW, PWC, and NAWIC are composed of women who are committed to nurturing and helping other women. Get involved with these organizations, as well as ones that do the work of encouraging women in the industry, like GBCA, and take what these women have to offer to apply it towards your own success and then pay it forward.

Nicole So, Project Manager

There is never a dull moment working in construction. It allows me to think outside the box to solve problems.

What advice do you have for women interested in a career in construction?

It is not easy to be in construction, but it is very fulfilling. You’ll meet some amazing people along the journey.
