On Thursday, July 20, 2023, GBCA and guests visited the Mayfair Middle School CTE Summer Program run by Mr. Evin Jarrett. Sherice Workman, a Local 158 Carpenter with Buckley & Company, Inc. spoke with students about her journey in the trades and taught some tips and tricks of the trade. Doug Schrey of Torrado Construction Company Inc. worked out in the yard with the students and also recorded for Dope Students podcast, sharing his stories, experiences, and advice with the students. Councilmember Katherine Gilmore Richardson came to check out the program and also talk about her efforts to show students a full range of career opportunities, including in the building trades.

Mayfair Middle School’s CTE Program is the only building trades program for middle school students in Philadelphia. GBCA is trying to help supply the program with building materials! Click the link below to donate money, or contact GBCA if you have excess building materials and can donate them!
