The AGC 2019 Leadership Development Conference, September 11-13, 2019, featured two keynote speakers, who spoke to different aspects of the mission of AGC’s Construction Leadership Councils. The purpose of the Construction Leadership Council is to cultivate construction industry leaders by helping them network and exchange ideas, and to serve their local communities.

Keynote Speaker: Corrine O’Connell, CEO, Habitat for Humanity

Corrine O’Connell spoke about the impact and value of Habitat for Humanity. Many conference attendees are active with their local Habitat for Humanity chapters, and Corrine’s speech reminded attendees of how houses are more than buildings. Houses become the foundations of stable family lives and strong communities.

Keynote Speaker: Nancy Dunleavy, Founder and CEO, Dunleavy & Associates

Nancy Dunleavy wants people to stop simply collecting each other’s business cards, and actually make meaningful connections. She reminded attendees of how networking events can lead to many loose acquaintances, but we need to be willing to ask questions that actually connect us personally. With our connections, we can then use our “ask” muscles and find out if the connection will be able to help, or direct you to another contact who will.

Thanks to our speakers for giving us so much to think about and to practice!

The 2020 Leadership Development Conference will be held in Chicago, October 13-16, 2020. Hope to see everyone there!
