On Tuesday, June 18, GBCA’s Construction Leadership Council (CLC) hosted a virtual Coffee Chat with John E. Healy IV (Sean), Chief Executive Officer of Healy Long & Jevin, Inc. This informal meeting, facilitated by CLC Member Steven Gobac of Skanska USA Building Inc., provided GBCA’s young and emerging construction professionals with the opportunity to interact with an experienced construction executive and ask questions about working in Philadelphia’s commercial construction industry.

At just 15 years old, Sean transitioned into the field as a laborer, demonstrating a strong work ethic from a young age. His passion for the industry was balanced with academic pursuits, earning a finance degree in college. Sean’s professional journey took a significant leap when he joined Healy & Long. Initially hired to handle accounting, payroll, and collections, he later transitioned to the operations side. His contributions were pivotal in modernizing the company, showcasing his versatility and commitment to growth.

Sean emphasizes the critical importance of being active in industry associations. Networking, in his view, is essential not just for personal growth but for the advancement of the industry as a whole. He underscores the need to create and deliver quality in all professional endeavors. Utilizing industry connections as a problem-solving tool is a key aspect of Sean’s philosophy. He believes that a robust network can provide invaluable support and resources when facing challenges.

A strong advocate for mentorship, Sean encourages members of the CLC to be inquisitive and gain a comprehensive understanding of how everything works. He credits mentors like Fran Pietrini and Phil Radomski for shaping his career and stresses the value employers place on innovation and problem-solving abilities. Sean also acknowledges the CLC for providing the opportunity to gain professional development skills as well as interact and meet industry leaders.

Sean’s career is a testament to the power of hard work, continuous learning, and the strength of a supportive network in the construction industry.
