On November 12, two members of GBCA’s Construction Leadership Council (CLC) visited Widener University to speak with second-year students in the Construction Management program. This “Casual Conversation” session gave students a firsthand look at real career pathways, project experiences, and the many opportunities available in the union construction industry.
Kevin Hosie, Project Manager at Shawmut Design and Construction, shared his career journey, highlighting the diverse projects he has managed in several U.S. cities and outlining Shawmut’s three-year rotational program. He also gave students an inside look at The Lindemann Performing Arts Center at Brown University by sharing a project video from his role as Project Manager.
Kaitlin Carpenter, Project Manager at Durapods LLC, introduced students to the world of prefabrication. She explained how bathroom pods are constructed, the types of projects they support, and walked students through Durapods’ scheduling and production processes.
GBCA staff closed the session by highlighting GBCA’s educational programs, member benefits, and the advantages of getting involved with the CLC as they begin building their careers.
