The American Heart Association created a series of Hard Hats with Heart Toolbox Talks with cardiovascular health tips and resources specifically for the construction industry to keep the workforce healthy. This weeks Toolbox Talk discusses tips on how to become more active.

How much physical activity do you need?

Moving more is a great way to maintain physical and mental health. Adults need at least 150 minutes per week of moderate-intensity activity (such as walking or gardening), or 75 minutes per week of vigorous exercise (such as jogging, swimming or playing a high-intensity sport). You can do a combination of moderate and vigorous exercise spread throughout the week.

Physical activity is an important element of the American Heart Association’s Life’s Essential 8 – the key measures for improving cardiovascular health.

The benefits of moving more:

  • Improved heart health and reduced risk of cardiovascular disease
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Helps improve cholesterol
  • Reduces stress and improves mental well-being
  • Better sleep
