The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is awarding a $30 million grant to accelerate the Navy Yard’s readiness for advanced manufacturing and commercial development. The funding, part of the state’s PA SITES program, will prepare 54 acres of land for six shovel-ready lots, capable of supporting 500,000 to 700,000 square feet of new development.
Site work will include roadways, utilities, soil excavation, grading, and stormwater infrastructure, positioning the Navy Yard as a major destination for cutting-edge industries and future investment.
“This investment accelerates our shared vision to create pad-ready sites to continue to attract top-tier businesses and position Philadelphia as a national hub for advanced industries,” said Mark Seltzer, Managing Director at Ensemble, in a statement to the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The project is part of Ensemble/Mosaic’s $6 billion master plan to transform 109 acres into 9 million square feet of mixed-use space and create 12,000 new jobs. Progress is already underway, with a 137,000-square-foot life sciences facility completed and 614 apartments set to open this summer.
Future plans include additional lab and manufacturing space, retail, a hotel, and potential adaptive reuse of an eight-story warehouse for creative and cultural purposes.
For contractors, this signals major upcoming opportunities in site development, infrastructure, and vertical construction as the Navy Yard continues its transformation into a hub for innovation and industry.
