On October 8, 2025, the Science History Institute in Old City will celebrate the grand opening of its Earthly Matters mineral exhibition and newly renovated lobby with a ribbon cutting, curator’s talk, and community celebration.

This milestone marks the completion of a $3.3 million renovation project — the Institute’s first major redesign since 2008 — designed by Atkin Olshin Shade Architects and built by INTECH Construction. The project reimagined the visitor experience with a multilevel lobby renovation, a welcoming new gift shop, and the installation of Earthly Matters, a state-of-the-art mineral hall featuring more than 20 specimens, interactive cases, and custom displays.

The renovation team included INTECH Construction, AOS Architects, Dan Bosin Associates, and a group of specialty collaborators who brought the Institute’s vision to life. Together, they created a space that not only showcases extraordinary minerals — from glowing fluorite to precious gemstones — but also improves accessibility and expands offerings for visitors.

With the renovation complete, the Science History Institute now offers visitors a refreshed lobby, a new gift shop featuring science-inspired items, and a permanent exhibition designed to spark curiosity about the natural world.
