On Thursday, September 11, construction professionals gathered at the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 1 Training Center in Philadelphia for a forum dedicated to mental health and worker well-being.
Hosted by GBCA, the Philadelphia Building Trades Safety Committee (PBTSC), the Mid-Atlantic Construction Safety Committee (MACSC), and the Philadelphia Area Labor Management Committee (PALM BUILT-RITE), the event brought together contractors, labor leaders, safety professionals, and mental health advocates for a vital conversation about addressing mental health in construction.
Speakers shared data and personal stories highlighting the urgent need to address the mental health crisis in construction, where suicide rates remain among the highest of any industry. Breakout sessions provided practical tools on recognizing early warning signs, breaking down stigma, connecting workers with resources, and fostering long-term emotional well-being.
To recognize their commitment, participants received Certificates of Participation, underscoring the industry’s collective dedication to creating safer and more supportive jobsites.
