GBCA’s Construction Leadership Council (CLC) is proud to help Philabundance provide fresh, free produce to Philadelphians.

On Friday, May 18, members of the CLC will be rescuing produce, helping Philabundance connect the region’s surplus produce with Philadelphians in need of healthy, fresh food. Due to the reliance of outward appearance standards as an indicator of quality, produce often gets rejected due to cosmetic imperfections. This produce is often perfectly edible and delicious!

The CLC will be rescuing, sorting, and packing fresh produce at the Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market (3414 South 67th St, Philadelphia) from 8:30am – 12:30pm.

We are looking for volunteers! Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older, be able to stand for the duration of the shift, and ready to work in a fast paced environment. Volunteers should expect to work in a large, refrigerated warehouse (50 degrees). Volunteers should wear layers to stay warm and comfortable shoes (sneakers or work boots).

To volunteer, email Lauren Tosti at ltosti@gbca.com.

The need for good healthy, food does not just come around once a year. For many, it’s a year-long struggle. Philabundance makes it a year-long mission to help. Fresh For All is a free produce market run by Philabundance at the same locations every week at the same time. In 2016, almost 1.6 million pounds of fresh, free produce was distributed at eleven locations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

About Philabundance

In 1984 Philabundance was founded by an idealist named Pamela Rainey Lawler who saw perfectly good food going to waste, and, at the same time, saw people going hungry. What started out as a small food rescue organization operating out of a Subaru, 30+ years later, is an innovative, impactful and collaborative organization distributing more than 24 million pounds of food a year to those in need. Philabundance is a proud member of Feeding America, a nationwide network of food banks leading the fight against hunger in the United States.
