On Wednesday, February 17, GBCA staff and the instructors of the Carpenters Joint Apprentice Training Center attended a Train the Trainer session as part of the implementation of Building a More Inclusive Industry. Led by facilitators from Turner Construction Company, the workshop helped prepare the instructors and leaders to become facilitators of the Building a More Inclusive Industry training program.
GBCA launched Building a More Inclusive Industry in late 2021. The program provides trainings and resources for the construction industry on the topics of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). A main focus of the program is to open channels of communication. The program introduces national debates in DEI and encourages participants to think about how they impact the industry and the jobsite.
The resources are framed for the construction industry: in addition to more formal workshops, the program includes toolbox talks that can be given and repeated on the jobsite, similar to safety toolbox talks that are given weekly.
