In anticipation of International Women’s Day (March 8) and to conclude Women in Construction Week, NAWIC Philadelphia Chapter 145, Women in Structural Engineering (WISE), and Women in Architecture (WIA) hosted the International Women’s Day Breakfast on Friday, March 6 at the Center for Architecture + Design. In addition to presenting a proclamation from the City of Philadelphia declaring March 1-7, 2020 Women in Construction Week, the event featured a discussion with Philadelphia Councilwoman Maria D. Quiñones-Sánchez about the relationship between development and affordable housing in Philadelphia.

Declaring March 1-7, 2020 As Women in Construction Week in The City Of Philadelphia

WHEREAS, the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Philadelphia Chapter 145 has distinguished itself for 52 years as the voice of women in construction in (insert city or region); and

WHEREAS, the work done by the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Philadelphia Chapter 145 has benefited the city of Philadelphia through community development and educational programs; and

WHEREAS, the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Philadelphia Chapter 145 has unceasingly promoted the employment and advance of women in the construction industry; and

WHEREAS, the construction community, represented by National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Philadelphia Chapter 145, has been a driving force in fostering community development through renovation and beautification projects; promotion of skilled trades careers; and a positive vision of the future; and

WHEREAS, the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Philadelphia Chapter 145 has sought to achieve successful results for the city of Philadelphia and surrounding areas in a cooperative spirit with other organizations;

RESOLVED, THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF PHILADELPHIA, Does hereby recognize the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Philadelphia Chapter 145 and its many dedicated volunteers for its steadfast work on behalf and in support of women in construction, and does proudly proclaim the week of March 1-7, 2020 as “Women in Construction Week”, and does further encourage our citizens to congratulate the organization on its many accomplishments.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) as sincere respect and admiration of this legislative body.
