March 7-13, 2021, was Women in Construction Week. To celebrate the role women have in Philadelphia’s construction industry, GBCA spotlighted six women who own and operate construction businesses in the Philadelphia region.

I was inspired by Emily Bittenbender, who encouraged me to pursue my aspirations of entrepreneurship. Mentorship has been a cornerstone for our growth and helped us develop industry relationships and opportunities. Transforming my love for creating the built environment into a business model affords me the opportunity increase equity and inclusion in the industry.

Jewell Antoine-Johnson, Managing Partner, Antoine Johnson LLC

One of my favorite projects that I had the privilege of working on was the restoration of Independence Hall Tower. It is such a significant part of this country’s history. It left such an impression on me to know that CDP Construction, LLC took part in its restoration.

Cheryl DePiano, Owner, CDP Construction, LLC

I just honestly love the work that we do. Demolition work has continued to challenge and further inspire innovation over the years, and I enjoy being at the forefront of this industry spurring on such growth.

Mary Pat Geppert, President, Geppert Bros., Inc.

The construction industry is filled with great people. Both the people I work with, and the customers we partner with, the teamwork and comradery are why I love the business.

Jennie Kensinger, President, R & R Ceilings, Inc.

I love that the industry is always expanding, especially in the Philadelphia market. There are endless opportunities for us to bid local jobs, so the sky is the limit for our potential!

Amanda Martin, Co-Owner, Manna Supply, Inc.

I have always been extremely driven and self-motivated. I don’t take “no” for an answer because I know what we are capable of doing. Having your own business allows you to make decisions that you normally couldn’t do if you weren’t an owner. We are our own bosses, and that is something I will never take for granted.

Shannon Martin, Co-Owner, Manna Supply, Inc.
